This Morning was shaping up just like a pile of our other mornings recently! We had our coffee, a vehicle loaded with supplies, and a destination I was unaware of! We had plans to get into this old industrial building under the cover of darkness. Knowing nothing about this site or how far away it was, I just followed my UE partner’s GPS prompts. We arrived a short while before civil twilight. We parked and approached this site by way of the tracks.
Once on site, we walked along the building trying the first few doors we came across with no luck. Our luck would soon change. As we rounded a corner, numerous access points were laid out before us. We chose the closest door we could squeeze through, and we made our entry. Since it was still well before sunrise and just barely twilight, going into an old industrial building with no lights was treacherous.
This first portion of the building that we entered was more of a packaging and processing floor. Here there were some large hulking machines peering out of the darkness, just waiting to be fired up. Most of those machines had conveyor belts, pinch points, and trip hazards aplenty. It being our first time here, we were taking it slow. No one needs a rusty cut or a twisted ankle to start the morning. Also, I am overly cautious around old machinery. You never know what drive-shafts, belts, or gears still may have power to them, and are just waiting to harm you!
We worked past the machinery and made our way on to a catwalk that had some large hoppers and control boards/panels. Most of the wiring had been removed or cut! With each second the sun was really starting to illuminate our surroundings. I climbed a freezing ladder to snap a few sunrise shots! Not expecting much more, we made our way down off the catwalk and to the ground floor….
As we were getting ready to leave(or so I thought), Jean led me in a different direction than we had come. Now I am starting to see why we are here! Old industry is great, but an ever changing street art gallery with tons of murals can be a feast for the eyes!
This portion of the building was much larger and laid out in a linear fashion. There were large “bays” spaced evenly down the length of this building and its offshoot. Each of these bays was turned into its own “art gallery”. Many murals and tags lined the walls of each of these galleries. There was so much vibrant color used on most of these murals, it was hard to focus on any one!
The roof in this place was a pretty cool feature too! Every third section of this roof was made of a transparent material to let the light in. Those sections spanned the entire length of the roof, allowing tons of light through. This would’ve saved a pile of money on lighting and some on heating costs. The way the sun was rising with every passing minute, seemed like a higher power was illuminating these galleries for us! Without these roof sections and this graffiti, this place would just be a dingy old factory.
This place was like two different explores, the first bit was sneaking in under the cover of darkness and enjoying some old industry before the sun had fully risen. Then as the sun was becoming more prevalent in the sky, we roamed an ever changing street art gallery. This was a very fun morning! We were mesmerized with the salt being packed into every crack and crevice available!

I’m gonna switch it up and put my UE partner’s pics up first! As always, our pics are very similar, yet hers tend to be more artsy and well thought out. I just “need” to document and preserve what we can! I am trying to get a better eye though.
Now for this industrial site though my lens. As always, Jean and I have very similar pictures.. The same things tend to draw our eyes.
